The all-new Whitby Sports Complex is set to open in 2026 and will be located on the west side of Baldwin Street South, south of Highway 407 and the community of Brooklin.

The concept design for the facility was developed using feedback from the community. The complex is anticipated to include Durham Region’s largest swimming pool, a double gymnasium, a twin-pad arena, flexible spaces to support community programming, and space for outdoor recreational opportunities such as tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields and more.

As part of The Town of Whitby’s continuous commitment and strategic vision towards climate change, the Whitby Sports Complex will also become the home of the community’s first- ever district energy system and Canada’s first net zero certified sports complex that has both icepads and a swimming pool. A feasibility study funded by the federal government found that using geothermal energy should be 90% more efficient and will reduce greenhouse gas emission by 96%. Geothermal energy is a clean, renewable resource that uses heat produced deep in the Earth’s core to heat and cool buildings, water, and generate electricity.

Whitby’s geothermal energy system will be integrated into the construction of the new sports complex with plans that more businesses and surrounding buildings will be linked to it as the area develops.
